Indoor and outdoor dining

An Imagination Destination

Having grown up in Phoenix, Az, I've had a lot of Mexican food. But most of the restaurants my parents took use to were all the same. Same items on the menu just different names.

Now I love Mexican food and would have lived happily ever after.... until I took a road trip in the late 60s down the Eastern Coast of Mexico. After a long day of driving from Monterrey to Veracruz we found wonderful restaurant that served a dish called Veracruzana. What, Mexican food with fish? That experience changed everything. From then on it's been an adventure for my taste buds.

I love to eat and I love to design. Unfortunately I don't own a restaurant  but I am a web designer. So what better way for me to have that restaurant I've always wanted than in a factional restaurant on the web.

The Ancho Grill website has all the elements that I would have wanted in a real restaurant. Granted the interior shots are stock shots but the food I've searched high and low for and will give credit where credit is due. I found some incredible dishes to make my imagination wander and my mouth water.

Who knows maybe someday I will open a small taco stand with real Mexican cuisine specialities.

EXPERIENCE OLD WORLD FLAVORS WITH A NEW WORLD ATTITUDE

The rich and aromatic blend of fiery and savory flavors enrich every dish we make.

We specialize in traditional Oaxaca, Yucatan and Veracruz cuisine with a contemporary flare. Oaxaca is famous for the Oaxaqueno mole that also contains bananas, for a sweeter flavor. Yucatan has many sauces with fruits, spread over chicken, (pollo pibil), or pork (cochinita pibil). In Veracruz, like on all the Pacific coast, the main dish is fish, like the fish dish a la Vareacruzana, which is topped with a local sauce, made of tomatoes, olives and chilies.

TIKIN XIC, pronounced "teekeen sheek” is a way of grilling fish and particular style. The fish is marinated and coated in a dry rub made primarily of achiote giving it it’s red color. The whole fish is grilled with tomatoes, onions and assorted peppers. The finished dish is served with saffron rice and radish slaw.

SEAFOOD CEVICHE is one of our most popular dishes. Made with octopus, prawns, sea snail, pico de gallo and red onions marinated in a perfect blend of citric juices.

Our COCHINITA PIBIL is is a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Península of Mayan origin. The pork marinated in a achiote paste, wrapped in banana leaves and slow cooked for hours. The result gives the meat it’s characteristic red color. We serve it with corn tortillas, red pickled onion, black beans and habanero chilies.
